Guys love them and women have them, yeah I’m talking about those glorious, amazingly wonderful things known as boobs. Worldwide, October has been named Breast Cancer Awareness Month and because this month is dedicated to boobs it seemed only fitting to devote a post to this cause.
Cancer is one of the most serious diseases women face and barring non-melanoma skin cancer, Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women of all races, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 35 in South Africa, according to the 2007 National Cancer Registry. Because as women, we love our boobs it’s important to take minute and inspect the “girls” every now and then. Breast cancer can be found and treated early on simply by doing a self administered breast exam (find out how to do your own here). This is a quick and easy way to check the twins that can lead to early detection and diagnosis and can possibly save your life.
From the moment you turn that ripe, old age of 20 years old you should start with a once monthly breast check just so you can can keep an eye on what’s cracking with your body and your boobies.
This October NetFlorist has also come up with a few delightful flowers and goodies for Pink-Tober meaning that if you want to show your support for the flight against breast cancer you can buy and display a beautiful bouquet of pink flowers! All you have to do is login here and get shopping for pink flowers and goodies.
Within SA we have some awesome organisations that are going out of their way to help educate woman on breast cancer and the practice of early detection. Two of these organisations are The Pink Drive and CANSA . CANSA is an organisation that provides not only care and support to people affected by cancer but they are also deeply involved in cancer research. To donate to CANSA and help with their cause simply click here.
The PinkDrive currently runs two “Pink” mobile breast check units, as well as three educational cars. Both units travel to semi-urban and urban areas around South Africa with the aim of enabling various disadvantaged communities access to education, physical examinations and how to do breast self-examination. These fine folks are doing their bit to help out the women of South Africa, so why not do your bit and donate to The PinkDrive here.
So what more is there for me to tell you? Every second person in the world owns a pair and whether yours are big, small, lopsided, perky, pointy, bouncy, enhanced or natural, they are yours and they are perfect. So think pink and look after your pair- do a breast exam today.
